Nube
(Nueno) Nube has very strong psychic ability which he relied on to battle evil supernatural beings, since he had the demon's claw he seems to use the two in conjunction and his power is formidable. He also becomes stronger when those he love (mostly his students and the women in his life) are in danger. When not fighting monster he becomes a rather silly but lovable person. Generally human Women don't seem to find him attractive, but supernatural women often find him irresistible!
He is basically human, but not entirely so thanks to the demon's claw, one of his less spectacular superhuman power is that he is able to eat
expired food without any side effects. He is susceptible to the common cold though!
Yukime
By far my favorite character in the entire series, she is something of a tragi-comic character
and part of the series' love triangle. Yukime is a "snow princess", a kind of
snow spirit (in this series spirits often have tangible/physical forms), Nube saved her life when she was a child. Consequently she fell head over heels in love with him.
When she grew up to be a sexy young umm.... "spirit" she followed Nube to his town (Domori) and wooed him in earnest.
Much hilarity ensued as she is a creature of the cold and cannot stand high temperature, and she would do
things like cooking frozen meals for him. When the temperature becomes particularly hot she's encase herself in a snow man!
Sadly her boss the Mountain God viewed her as a traitor and eventually brought about her death, she completely expended her energy to help Nube dispatch a particularly
strong and peculiar looking monster, then she faded away, after a teary goodbye and a confession of love from Nube :'-( Yukeme came back a few manga volumes later but she has changed as she was
reconstructed by the Mountain God and he took away her memory and her love for Nube. (Nube of course managed to restore all these things with his power and his love for her).
Ms Ritsuko
A beautiful young teacher Nube is pursuing unfortunately for him she is very scared of ghosts and demons, and he (being a rather silly person often tries to impress her by showing her supernatural things and get his head whacked for his troubles). Ritsuko eventually fell in love with him when she saw how fearless he is when protecting the students. However, by the time she realized her love for him he has already fallen in love with Yukime.
Kyoko
Kyoko is something of a tom boy. She has known Nube the longest as he exorcised a demon from her when she was very young. She is very loyal to him. Beneath the tough exterior she is very kind even to spirits. Kyoko is in love with Hiroshi a boy in her class.
Hiroshi
is Kyoko's boyfriend, an excellent footballer and pretty useless at school work as you can imagine.
Miki
Miki seems to be the cause of at least half the trouble in the series, she is very well endowed for her age and clearly believe in the "got it, flaunt it" philosophy. When she is not flirting or working on some dubious get rich schemes she likes to read about super natural things and is practically a walking encyclopedia on he subject, something Nube often find very handy! She has an unusual ability to project her astral head! (just the head and the neck!)
Tamamo
Tamamo is a fox spirit, he started out as one of Nube's most dangerous nemesis, but subsequently became his ally (albeit with what he claims to be an ulterior motive!)
Originally he intended to steal Hiroshi's skull in order to enhance his human disguise
(after he lost his epic battle with Nube, he decided to wait until another suitable skull comes along).
He was extremely impressed when Nube managed to defeat him after their titanic struggle, and when he wanted know how Nube's power manage to become stronger at the most critical
moment when he should have weakened, Nube told him that it was the power of love (or generated by love), that is the love for his students and others he hold dear. Tamamo then
decided he will learn to "love" in order to defeat Nube. This meant that he had to learn to understand and develop human emotions, and to live among humans. He has since saved Nube's life on several occasions.
He still claims that his ultimate aim is to learn to love in order to defeat Nube. However, it seems that secretly he really likes Nube, though he will never admit it (as if!:-).
In his human form he is supposed to be very handsome and stylish (looks like a pretentious hippie to me actually!)
Any way, an intriguing character.
